Crete
Crete is a Greek island and a very popular holiday destination in the Mediterranean. Crete is, with its 8,336 km2, the largest Greek island. The island has approximately 650,000 inhabitants. According to Greek mythology, Crete is the island where Zeus was born. It is also here that Theseus killed the Minotaur in the maze. Crete first became part of Greece in 1913 and contains a special culture found only in Crete.
